Ish

Ish, the feature film debut from artist Imran Perretta, is screening at Plymouth Arts Cinema on Thursday 3, Saturday 5 and Wednesday 9 September. It's a Programmer's Pick, so it's one of the titles the cinema has specifically pulled out for a run rather than just a one-off. The film runs 87 minutes and is rated 15, and it's set and filmed in Luton.

It follows twelve-year-old best friends Ish and Maram, who struggle to hold onto their friendship in the wake of a police stop and search. As the ripples of that event take hold of their lives, the boys try to make sense of the men they're becoming, and how letting go can be the hardest part of growing up. It's described as a powerful coming-of-age story, one that's sensitively attuned to the vagaries of youth, masculinity, friendship and family. Perretta has worked as an acclaimed artist before this, and Ish is his first full-length feature.

The cast includes Farhan Hasnat, Yahya Kitana and Joy Crookes. One thing to keep in mind before you book: the film contains flashing images which may affect viewers susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.

There are three screenings to choose from: 6:00pm on Thursday 3rd and Wednesday 9th, and 8:00pm on Saturday 5th. Standard tickets are £9.50, with matinees at £7.50 and over 66s at £8.50. Under 25s, students, AUP staff and budget tickets are £5.00, and baby and family screenings are also £5.00. Friends get a 10% discount and £6.50 on Tuesdays. Tickets are free for companions, personal assistants or carers accompanying disabled customers or CEA card holders.
