Garden design workshop

Nora Garden Design is running an Introduction to Garden Design Workshop at Market Hall in Devonport on Friday 24 July. It's a one-day, hands-on session, so you'll be doing rather than just listening. The whole thing is delivered by Toria Glover, a practising garden designer who's worked in a London studio and now lectures on the Garden and Landscape Design courses at the University Centre at the Eden Project. She comes to it with a background in horticulture, having worked across a range of National Trust properties in Cornwall, so she's spent as much time with her hands in the soil as she has with a plan on the table. That mix of practical gardening and contemporary design is exactly what she brings to the room.

The session is built around a clear, structured look at how a garden design actually comes together, from the first ideas through to a finished plan. Because it's hands-on, you'll be working through the process yourself rather than just watching someone else do it. It's designed as an introduction, so it's a good place to start if you've got a garden you're itching to change but aren't sure how to map it out, or if you've always been curious about the logic behind a well-planted space. You'll walk away with a better sense of how to think about a site and how to turn those thoughts into something you can actually plant.

It's held at Market Hall on Duke Street in Devonport, PL1 4PS. The workshop runs on 24 July, and it's a one-day affair, so you'll want to clear the whole day for it. If you're around Plymouth and have a bit of a green streak, it's a solid way to spend a Friday.
