Plymouth's annual Bonfire Night celebration featuring a large bonfire, fireworks display, fairground rides and catering stalls on the Hoe.
Bonfire Night returns to The Hoe on Thursday 5 November, from 16:00 to 22:00. It's one of those dates that marks the city's calendar every year, and this time it's free to attend. The whole evening is built around a large bonfire lit at 19:00, followed by a fifteen-minute fireworks display launched from the Citadel wall. Around the bonfire, there'll be fairground rides and catering stalls on the Hoe, and crowds are expected to reach 20,000.
Councillor Sally Haydon, Cabinet Member for Events, describes it as one of the most important dates in the city's calendar. The council promotes the public gathering as one of the safest ways to celebrate, arguing that it cuts the danger of private back-garden bonfires and fireworks, eases the burden on emergency services and reduces carbon emissions. The Plymouth Waterfront Partnership sponsors the event, and its chief executive Jon Walton says it drives footfall to local businesses and supports the city's economy.

Blue-badge parking is available on the Hoe, and road closures around the Hoe and the Barbican run from 17:00 to 21:00, so you'll want to plan your route accordingly. The Hoe is in Plymouth, Devon PL1 2PA, and the event runs from 16:00 until 22:00, with the bonfire lit at 19:00 and the fireworks following on.
