Big Plymouth Ride

The Big Plymouth Ride is back on Sunday 16 August, starting at North Road on the Lee Mill industrial estate and working its way into the city. It's a charity ride that's open to all abilities, from 50cc scooters to superbikes, so you don't need a rocket between your legs to get involved.

The route is a familiar one: from Lee Mill, you'll head out via the A38 to the Marley Head turnoff and then loop back towards the city. From there, you'll take the Marsh Mills slip road, run down the Embankment to Exeter Street, turn left into Bretonside, and finish up in the Barbican. It's the same route the old Megaride used, which is why so many people still line the way to cheer the riders on.

There's a bit of history to it, too. The Big Plymouth Ride took over when the Megaride was cancelled, and it's been running since 2020, growing a bit larger every year. Organiser Lee Garlick says the hope is to make 2026 the best one yet. This year's ride supports FND Action UK, a patient-led charity that offers support to people living with Functional Neurological Disorder in the UK. As for the cost, there's a suggested minimum donation of £2, with all proceeds going to charity. The ride is open to any bike, from a small scooter to a full-on superbike, so it's as much about the community as it is about the riding.
