Five-hour free writing retreat for faculty, graduate students and fellows, with quiet writing time and reflection on the theme 'Harvest Season for Your Writing'.
The Center for Urban Education is hosting a writing retreat at Wesley W. Posvar Hall on Thursday, October 22, from 10 AM to 3 PM. It's a five-hour block of dedicated time for anyone who's been struggling to find a quiet window to actually sit down and write. The theme is Harvest Season for Your Writing, and the idea is to make progress on what you've already plantedβthe drafts, the data, and the half-finished ideas that have been sitting on the back burner.
Interim Director Lori Delale-O'Connor kicks things off with a writing prompt to get you moving, and from there the session alternates between long stretches of quiet writing and moments to share your progress and reflect. It's not a workshop in the traditional sense; you're not there to be taught how to write, but to actually do the writing in a room with other people doing the same thing. If you've got a project that's stalled, this is the kind of structured space that helps you push it forward.
The retreat is run by the Center for Urban Education (CUE), a research and community hub within the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. For over 20 years, CUE has worked to improve urban education and support communities, and its research and engagement have led to major improvements in urban school systems. The center also puts on a steady stream of public programming, including the Food For Thought talk series, the three-hour CUEmmunity Connections block, the Summer Educator Forum, the Lunch & Learn series, and the CUETalks lecture series.
