Free jazz concert by alto saxophonist and flutist Lynn Speakman with the Duquesne University jazz faculty at the Mary Pappert School of Music.
Lynn Speakman is playing at the Mary Pappert School of Music on Tuesday, October 27, as part of the Uptown Jazz Series. She's a Pittsburgh-area alto saxophonist and flutist, and for this one she's sharing the stage with members of the Duquesne University jazz faculty.
That lineup fills out a full ensemble around her. On trumpet is JD Chaisson, with Jeff Bush on trombone, Alton Merrell on piano, Paul Thompson on bass, and Thomas Wendt on drums. With a horn section of trumpet, trombone, and Speakman's alto sax and flute, it's a sizable group for a jazz setāsix musicians in total.
Since the faculty members are coming from the same department, there's a built-in connection there, and Speakman is a local name in the city's jazz scene. The show is part of the Uptown Jazz Series, which brings professional jazz into the university setting.
