Giant-screen documentary by Stephen Low Company aboard a freight train crossing North America, shown on the Rangos Certified Giant Screen.
Train Time is showing now through October 31 at the Rangos Giant Cinema on the ground floor of the Kamin Science Center, 1 Allegheny Ave. It's a 45-minute giant-screen documentary from the Stephen Low Company that puts you aboard a freight train crossing the North American continent. Low, who also directed the IMAX experience Rocky Mountain Express, shot this on 15/70mm motion picture film—the largest format for IMAX and other giant-screen theaters—with the cooperation of the railroad.
The film weaves together present-day technology and racing steam locomotives, and it makes a point of highlighting the diversity of the railroad workforce, including women and women of color in roles long assumed to be held only by men. Low frames railroading as a profession integral to the fabric of modern civilization, following engineers, conductors, dispatchers, roadmasters, and maintenance crews as the industry adapts to environmental challenges.
