Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre presents Marius Petipa's classic ballet 'The Sleeping Beauty' with the PBT Orchestra playing Tchaikovsky's score live.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre brings The Sleeping Beauty to the Benedum Center from May 7 to 9, 2027. It's a classical ballet built around the fairy tale of enchantment, destiny, and true love, and the PBT Orchestra will be in the pit performing Tchaikovsky's score live.
The production follows the storybook version of the tale: Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré, six good fairies, the vengeful Carabosse, and characters like Puss 'n Boots, the White Cat, Bluebird, and Princess Florine. The original choreography is by Marius Petipa, with new staging by PBT Artistic Director Adam W. McKinney. Magnoly Batista and Grace Rookstool are in the cast, and the live orchestra means you'll hear the music as it was written, not a recording.
It's a production that works on two levels: a radiant introduction to ballet for families and a traditional theatrical experience for people who've been following the company for years. The choreography is clean, the story is familiar, and the live music ties it together.
