The Second City touring troupe brings its sketch comedy, songs and improvisation to the City Theatre Main Stage.
The Second City Touring Company is coming to the City Theatre Main Stage in Pittsburgh, with performances running from April 15 to April 24. If you've never heard of them, the name carries a lot of weight in comedy: The Second City has been a first name in laughter for over sixty years, and its stages have launched the careers of Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, and many more. This is the touring arm of that same institution bringing its sketch comedy and improvisation to the city.
The show pulls from the company's comedy vault, reworking some of its best sketch comedy and songs for the modern era. Those older pieces are paired with the troupe's newest classics and its trademark improvisation, so you'll get a mix of material that's been refined over time and stuff that's fresh. The improvisation is a big part of the Second City identity, and it's what keeps the show feeling live rather than just a set of rehearsed sketches.
