Over-21s-only live tribute to Marvin Gaye, with a band and vocalists reimagining his soul classics in an intimate hotel room.
The Jazz Room at the Omni William Penn Hotel is doing a tribute to Marvin Gaye on Saturday, January 23, 2027, with a second date on Saturday, February 20. Both shows run from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. It's part of a series of themed nights the hotel stages, alongside tributes to Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong.
The set focuses on Gaye's most recognized songs: "Let's Get It On," "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "Sexual Healing," "What's Going On," and "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You)." A live band handles the music, with saxophones and trumpets backing the vocals. The room is kept low-lit with immersive sound, and the musicians leave room for spontaneous improvisation throughout the night.
The venue itself is a downtown landmark. The Omni William Penn Hotel is a 1916 Renaissance Revival building by Benno Janssen and Franklin Abbott, full of Beaux-Arts and Art Deco details and home to a two-tiered Grand Ballroom. The Jazz Room is the hotel's dedicated live-music space, and this tribute is one of several themed programs they run there.
