Family-friendly Dia de los Muertos screening of the animated film 'The Book of Life' at the Harris Theater.
The Harris Theater is screening The Book of Life (2014) on Saturday, October 31, as part of its annual family-friendly Dia de los Muertos showing. It's a good fit for the dateโthe movie centers on the Mexican holiday, so it's a natural way to spend the day with kids in tow.
If you haven't spent much time there, the Harris is run by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and is one of the most active arts facilities in the region, programming art films nearly every day of the year. It has a bit of a history behind it, too. It was formerly known as the Art Cinema and was the first movie house in Pittsburgh to commercially show art films, before it became an adult movie house in the 1960s. The Cultural Trust later bought and restored it, and the cinema reopened to the public on November 9, 1995. It still keeps 35mm film projectors on hand, and it was named through a gift from the Buhl Foundation after John P. Harris, a co-founder of the Nickelodeon. For eligible digital films, closed captioning and audio description are available.
