All-ages show with Cincinnati shoegaze band Sungaze and Chicago space rock band Lavisher, plus support from Vyva Melinkolya and Blinder.
Sungaze and Lavisher bring a double bill to Bottlerocket Social Hall on Friday, October 23, with Vyva Melinkolya and Blinder filling out the rest of the night. It's a four-band lineup that pulls from a few different corners of the guitar world, and the whole thing is all ages.
Sungaze comes in from Cincinnati, and they describe their sound as a mix of shoegaze and midwest emo. If you're not familiar with the two, that puts them somewhere between the wall-of-sound textures of the former and the melodic, often heart-on-sleeve songwriting of the latter. They're sharing the bill with Lavisher, a space rock band out of Chicago, so the night leans heavily into the louder, more atmospheric side of things. Vyva Melinkolya and Blinder round out the bill, making it a full evening of music rather than just a couple of sets.
The promoters have billed the night for fans of My Bloody Valentine, The Smashing Pumpkins, They Are Gutting A Body of Water, and Ethel Cain. That's a wide spread—from the foundational shoegaze of MBV and the big-room alt-rock of the Pumpkins to the more recent, genre-blurring work of They Are Gutting A Body of Water and Ethel Cain—but it gives you a good sense of the ground the night covers. If any of those names ring a bell, you've got a pretty clear idea of the kind of sound to expect.
