An improvised fantasy adventure in which a troupe of 'merry vagabonds' throws modern-day characters into Shakespearean chaos.
Rough Magic kicks off a four-week run at Arcade Comedy Theater on Friday, October 30, with subsequent shows on November 6, 13, and 20. It's an improvised Shakespeare-ish fantasy, which is a fancy way of saying the troupe makes it up as they go. The premise is a familiar one: modern-day characters get dropped into a world of Shakespearean chaos, where witches make prophecies, wizards conjure tempests, and fairies hand out love potions. The show is built on the fly, leaning on the audience and the players to drive the plot, so no two nights will be the same.
The cast is a ten-person ensemble: Aaron Crutchfield, Cassie Pfannenstiel, Dave Sinneway, Hank McAnallen, Jon Hartwell, Karen White, Lily Grbach, Marta Napoleone Mazzoni, Philip Mazzoni, and Sarah Schultz. Behind them are Connor McCanlus as coach and co-director, and Will Snavely as producer and co-director. The whole thing is described as a fantasy adventure built on the fly, so the plot depends on the room as much as the performers.
