Young artists of Pittsburgh Musical Theater present the Tony Award-winning musical about a clever little girl who stands up to her fearsome headmistress.
Pittsburgh Musical Theater is bringing Matilda The Musical to the Byham Theater from November 5 to 8, 2026. It's a Tony Award-winning show that's picked up 47 international awards along the way, and this particular run is a Young Artist Production, which means the cast is made up of young artists from the PMT Conservatory. They're performing in partnership with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, with the CAPA Orchestra providing the music.
The story comes from Roald Dahl's book and follows Matilda, a little girl with a sharp wit, a love for reading, and psychokinetic powers. She's largely ignored by her parents, but her kind teacher, Miss Honey, sees her for who she is. Together they stand up to the fearsome headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, and Matilda eventually takes a stand to change her own destiny. It's a story about a kid who refuses to just take things as they are, and the music helps carry that through.
The score is by Tim Minchin, with a book by Dennis Kelly, and includes some of the show's most recognizable numbers: "Naughty," "When I Grow Up," and "Revolting Children." The whole thing is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theatre International. Since it's a Young Artist Production, you'll be seeing the PMT Conservatory students take the lead on stage, backed by the CAPA Orchestra.
