Inaugural free, family-friendly block party closing Bedford Avenue in the Hill District, with live music, a costume parade, trunk-or-treat and kids activities.
Resilience Rocks the Block takes over Bedford Avenue on Saturday, October 31, from 11 AM to 5 PM. It's the inaugural annual community fundraising gathering for the Neighborhood Resilience Project, a Pittsburgh nonprofit rooted in the Gospel and the teachings of the Orthodox Church and inspired by the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. They describe their mission as transforming trauma-affected communities into resilient, healing and healthy ones through Trauma-Informed Community Development.
To make it happen, they're closing a stretch of Bedford Avenue in the Hill District from Erin Street to Devillers Street, turning the road into a fall block party. The center of it all is a main stage with live music, and since it's Halloween, there's a costume parade and contest with a red carpet walk. For the kids, there's a trunk-or-treat, a dedicated activity zone with pony rides and a hay treasure hunt, and rows of food and sponsor vendors lining the street.
The party is also a fundraiser for the project's work. In 2025, they distributed $55,339.53 in emergency financial assistance to 213 people, served 1,600 children weekly through their Backpack Feeding Program across 32 locations, and provided free dental and medical appointments to the uninsured. The event is organized by the Neighborhood Resilience Project and Soulful Femme.
