A Halloween-themed family event at the National Aviary featuring owl expert talks, scavenger hunts, crafts, and meet-and-greets with nocturnal animals.
Owl-O-Ween returns to the National Aviary in Pittsburgh this October, running across two weekends: Saturday and Sunday, October 17-18, and again October 24-25. Each day goes from 11 AM to 3 PM, so you've got four different dates to choose from. The whole thing is included with general admission, which makes it an easy one to drop into if you're already planning a visit.
The theme is the Aviary's nocturnal neighbors during hooting season, when owls get more vocal. Throughout the day, you can learn about owl behavior and work your way through a scavenger hunt that spans the entire facility. There are Halloween treats to collect, with allergen-friendly options available—just keep in mind the Aviary isn't a nut-free facility. The Owl Discovery Zone brings together biofacts, a thaumatrope craft, owl trivia, and a selfie station.
Expert talks run throughout the day at the Helen M. Schmidt FliteZone™ Theater and Canary's Call, and the program wraps up with a Shake Your Tailfeather costume dance party. Costumes are encouraged, and there's a chance to meet bats at Canary's Call, presented by Dollar Bank.

Between the scavenger hunt, the crafts, and the talks, there's enough to keep you busy for a few hours, and since it's spread across two weekends, you can pick the day that works best for you. It's all part of general admission at the National Aviary, 11 AM to 3 PM on October 17, 18, 24, and 25.
