Musical comedy show in which Pittsburgh musicians and media personalities channel the world's greatest non-living stars, hosted by Larry Richert and Steve Hansen.
Night of the Singing Dead returns to City Winery Pittsburgh on Wednesday, October 28 and Thursday, October 29, for its 27th edition. It's a long-running, irreverent musical comedy that's been around for decades, and this year it's playing as part of a multi-show series at the winery. Each performance is billed as a one-of-a-kind event, so if you're deciding between the two dates, keep in mind that what happens on Wednesday won't be the same as what happens on Thursday.
The premise is simple: Pittsburgh musicians and media personalities channel some of the world's greatest non-living stars. They take classic songs and rework them with humorous lyrics and creative twists, so it's as much about the comedy as it is about the music. The 27th edition continues that tradition, with local musicians paying tribute to late rock stars like Brian Wilson and Dolly Parton.
Two familiar Pittsburgh voices are hosting the whole thing: Larry Richert, the longest-running morning show host at KDKA, and Steve Hansen, the city's legendary rock DJ. They'll be the ones guiding the night, keeping the energy up between the musical numbers.
