Hands-on science program for children from pre-K through grade 8 at The Citizen Science Lab.
The Citizen Science Lab is running Mini Lab, a program built for the youngest scientists in the city, from pre-K through grade 8. It kicks off on Saturday, October 10, at 10 AM at their space on 636 Herron Ave in Pittsburgh, and runs through May 22, 2027, with sessions ending at 12 PM. If you've got kids in that age range, it's a long stretch of science that carries through the winter and into the spring.
The whole thing is about hands-on experiments. Rather than just reading about how things work, kids get to actually do them, which is usually the part they enjoy most anyway. The Lab describes it as a way to spark curiosity by making science easy and exciting to understand, and they keep it in a playful environment where kids can discover how things work by getting their hands dirty. It's designed to be accessible, so whether your kid is just starting out in pre-K or already in middle school, the focus is on the doing rather than the lecture.
Because it's a program that spans several months, it's more of a regular thing than a one-off workshop. It runs from that first Saturday in October all the way to late May, so there's plenty of room to let a kid settle into it. If you're looking for something that keeps them engaged with science over the course of the school year, this fits that bill.
