Run of monster movies, including King Kong, John Carpenter's The Thing and The Fog and The Nightmare Before Christmas, shown in the immersive Rangos Giant Cinema.
The Menacing Monsters Series is running at the Rangos Giant Cinema inside the Kamin Science Center, a run of monster movies leading up to Halloween. The lineup spotlights iconic creatures and eerie atmospheres across four celebrated films, and it's all playing in the center's immersive theater.
King Kong (1933, rated PG) is presented in partnership with the Pittsburgh Classic Movie Club. John Carpenter's The Thing and The Fog are each introduced by the Horror Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh, so those two come with a bit of academic context before the credits roll. The Nightmare Before Christmas (rated PG) rounds out the bill in lively 3D.
It's a wide range of monster cinema to cover in one series—the original giant ape, Carpenter's claustrophobic horror and coastal dread, and a stop-motion holiday classic. If you're in the mood for a few nights of creatures on the big screen as October winds down, this is a good place to start.
