Hip hop concert featuring Lupe Fiasco and gymclassheroes. on their Back To Basics Tour.
Lupe Fiasco and gymclassheroes. are playing Stage AE on Friday, November 13, as part of the Back To Basics Tour. It's a double bill that brings two names from the mid-2000s hip-hop era back to the same stage, and the tour title points to exactly that: a return to the sound and style they each built their names on. Lupe Fiasco is known for his dense, literate writing and a knack for weaving social commentary into his verses, while gymclassheroes. brought a live-band energy to the mix, blending rap with a rock-leaning setup. Seeing them together on one bill is a bit of a throwback to when that particular crossover of hip-hop and live instrumentation was a mainstay on the radio.
Both acts have spent years carving out their own lanes, and this tour puts them on the same night. Lupe's work has always leaned toward the conceptual and the political, while gymclassheroes. built their reputation around a full band sound that worked as well in a club as it did on a festival stage. The Back To Basics framing suggests the setlists will draw from the records that first put them on the map, so if you've been following them since the early days, there's a good chance you'll hear the songs you remember best.
