Free solo-acoustic show by King Youngblood on a college tour to mobilise youth voter registration and turnout.
King Youngblood plays the University of Pittsburgh on Thursday, October 22, as part of the Make Your Voice Heard Loud & Vote Tour. It's a solo-acoustic set, and since it's a campus show, it's free.
King Youngblood is the project of Cameron Lavi-Jones, the 23-year-old frontman of the Seattle-based alt-rock and Afro-punk band that includes drummer Paul 'Styx' Stoot, cellist Chet Peterson, and bassist Samy Garcia. Lavi-Jones is the son of former Black Panther Maurice Jones Jr. He studied communications at the University of Washington, where he focused on BIPOC social justice and the democratization of media, and has spoken at PNW Indivisible, No Kings, and Hands Off rallies. During the 2020 Capitol Hill protests, he co-founded the podcast The Revolution Will Be Harmonized.
This tour is a nonpartisan effort to mobilize youth voter registration and turnout. Lavi-Jones started it back in 2018, and it's grown into 35 pop-up acoustic shows across 35 college campuses in 35 days, with a focus on purple states and states with low youth voter turnout. The set is solo-acoustic, stripped down from the full-band sound of the project. Alternative Press has called Lavi-Jones 'Seattle's Alt Rock Prince,' and AfroPunk Magazine described his hook-writing as 'unparalleled in the world of heavy music.'
