Screening of the 3D documentary 'Horse Power' on the 71-by-39-foot Rangos Giant Screen at the Kamin Science Center.
Horse Power (3D) is playing at the Kamin Science Center through December 31, and it's a 42-minute film that takes you on a global tour of horses and their bond with people. It follows Julaa, an eight-year-old girl and her Mongolian foal, and from there it reaches far and wide: wild mustangs and a Native American horse listener in Arizona, an Arabian stallion, a draft police horse in Amsterdam, and the miniature guide horses Digby and Hazel. It also looks at six Przewalski wild horses released after being pushed to the brink of extinction. Along the way, the film digs into the biology and behavior that make horses such remarkable athletes and companions.
It plays at the Rangos Giant Cinema, which the Kamin Science Center calls the 'Mother of All Theaters.' The setup is a 71-by-39-foot Certified Giant Screen fed by two Christie laser-illuminated 4K projectors and a Dolby Atmos surround sound system with 49 speakers—the most technologically advanced movie experience in Pittsburgh. Since it's a 3D film, the scale of the screen and the surround sound are a big part of the experience, and the 42-minute runtime makes it a relatively short trip. Tickets are $10, or $8 for Carnegie Museums members, and it's showing now through December 31 at 1 Allegheny Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
