Blindfolded 90-minute dining experience with a secret three-course menu at the private club Rivers Club.
Dining in the Dark comes to the Rivers Club on Friday, November 20, for a blindfolded dinner that takes a few hours of your evening. The whole point is to eat without being able to see a thing: you're blindfolded from the start, and the staff guides you to your seat. From there, you spend 90 minutes working through a secret three-course menu of appetizers, mains, and desserts. There are vegetarian, seafood, and meat options to choose from, and they make room for dietary restrictions and allergies, so you can still participate even if you have specific needs.
When you take away your sight, the other senses tend to step up. Aromas become more pronounced and flavors intensify, and since you can't see the plate, there's no right or wrong way to eat. It's the kind of thing that works best as a shared experience—something to do with a partner, family, or a group of friends.
The dinner is hosted at the Rivers Club, a private social club in downtown Pittsburgh that's been welcoming members for over 40 years. Their Executive Chef curates an innovative and eclectic menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and that same kitchen is behind the secret courses for this event.
