DĂa de los Muertos celebration at Camino CoctelerĂa & Cocina in Bloomfield, with $15 tickets whose proceeds benefit the Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation.
Camino CoctelerĂa & Cocina is hosting a Dia de Muertos celebration on Friday, October 30, in Bloomfield. It's one of several ways the city is marking the holiday this year, and this one puts it in a neighborhood spot known for its cocktails and food.
If you're not familiar with the tradition, DĂa de los Muertosâor Day of the Deadâis usually observed on November 1 and 2. It's a time when families honor deceased loved ones with ofrendas (altars), food, flowers, and other offerings, a custom that draws on both Indigenous and Spanish Catholic traditions. The holiday is about remembering and celebrating those who've passed rather than mourning them, and that spirit carries over into the way it's observed across the city.
Around Pittsburgh, the celebrations take a few different forms this year. Some are community-focused, with public altars and family-friendly activities; others lean into the more atmospheric side, like a gothic dance party and an ancestral ceremony. Camino's celebration falls on the Friday before the traditional dates, so it's a good way to get into the spirit a few days early.
