Seminar on health information privacy and security law and ethics with Melissa Goldstein of George Washington University, in person and via Zoom.
Melissa Goldstein speaks at Carnegie Mellon University on Tuesday, October 27, as part of the Current Topics in Privacy seminar. It runs from 12:30 to 1:50 PM in Hamburg Hall 1002, 5000 Forbes Ave, and is also available via Zoom.
Goldstein is a professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Milken Institute School of Public Health, George Washington University, and a national expert in health information privacy and security law and ethics. She sits on the advisory board of the Future of Privacy Forum and was a member of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics—the statutory public advisory body to the Secretary of Health and Human Services on health data, statistics, privacy, and HIPAA—where she co-chaired the privacy, confidentiality, and security subcommittee.
The seminar is part of CMU's Master's in Privacy Engineering and AI Governance, taught by Hana Habib and co-sponsored by the Carnegie Bosch Institute, with some sessions also brought by the Block Center for Technology and Society. It brings together some of the field's most influential voices: former Big Tech privacy chiefs, DARPA researchers, privacy startup founders, and academics like danah boyd of Cornell, Daniel J. Solove of GW Law and CEO of TeachPrivacy, and Arvind Narayanan of Princeton. Goldstein's session fits right into that mix, bringing a legal and ethical perspective on health data to a conversation that usually spans tech, policy, and law.
