Performance art piece by Tara Fay Coleman that turns the act of filling out and destroying identity forms into a durational work on identity erasure, with a closing reception and artist talk on 15 November.
Tara Fay Coleman brings Census [REDACTED] to Framezilla! on Friday, October 30 and Sunday, November 1. It's a piece of performance art that looks at the slow, bureaucratic violence of identity erasure, set against the backdrop of disappearing DEI frameworks and the quiet deletion of demographic databases. The whole thing turns on one repetitive, administrative gesture: filling out identity forms only to destroy them immediately. Through that loop, Coleman underscores the absurdity of contemporary equity work, the erasures embedded in 'neutral' policy, and the ongoing precarity of marginalized bodies asked to continually assert their existence.
It's a durational work, which means it doesn't just happen once and end. It remains on view during regular hours, so you can drop in and see it in progress rather than catching a single start-to-finish performance. The piece continues through the fall, with a Closing Reception and Artist Talk on November 15, where Coleman will be available to talk through the work and the ideas behind it.
