Free family-friendly ghost stories and songs around a campfire on four October nights, with an ASL interpreter.
Campfire Ghost Stories are running across four different parks in Allegheny County from Thursday, October 22 through Sunday, October 25, with each session from 7 PM to 8 PM. Storytellers Josh and Gab lead the nights, mixing ghost stories and songs around a campfire. It's billed as a fall and Halloween activity for children and families, so it's the kind of thing you bring the kids to rather than a late-night haunt.
Because the series moves, you've got four different spots to choose from. On Thursday, October 22, it's at the North Park Boathouse Lawn (10301 Pearce Mill Road, Allison Park). Friday, October 23, it's at Harrison Hills Park Yakaon Shelter (Parks Lane, Natrona Heights). Saturday, October 24, it's at Boyce Park Four Seasons Activity Center (901 Centerview Drive, Plum). And Sunday, October 25, it's at Settlers Cabin Park Moccasin Shelter (Maple Springs Drive, Pittsburgh). If you're in the city, Settlers Cabin is the closest; if you're further north, North Park is your best bet.
There are a few things to keep in mind before you head out. An American Sign Language interpreter is onsite at all four sessions. You're encouraged to bring your own blankets and chairs to sit on, and if you show up in a Halloween costume, you've got a chance to win a prize. The evenings are weather-permitting, so if the forecast looks shaky, check the Allegheny County Parks Facebook page for updates before you drive out.
