Evening of talks, art, hors d'oeuvres and signature drinks to honor the journeys of those impacted by breast cancer.
BRA Day 2026 comes to Heinz Hall on Wednesday, October 21, from 6 PM to 9 PM. It's the local chapter of Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, a campaign centered on public education, patient care, and research. The University of Pittsburgh's Department of Plastic Surgery is an affiliate site of the national ASPS BRA Day initiative, and this event is their way of bringing that work into the community.
Dr. Carolyn De La Cruz has led the local chapter for the last decade. Each year, she gathers the community and commissions local artists to create works that tell stories of breast reconstruction, so there's a fresh set of art to see every time. The evening is framed as a moment of connection, reflection, and celebration, honoring the journeys of those impacted by breast cancer. It's become one of the highlights of Breast Cancer Awareness month in Pittsburgh.
As for what the night actually looks like, you'll find inspiring talks, expert guidance, and the commissioned art. There are also hors d'oeuvres and signature drinks to keep you going. It's designed as a social eveningβa place to hear from people who've been through it, get some professional perspective, and spend time with others who understand. If you're coming for the art, the pieces are created by local artists specifically for the occasion, so they're tied to the stories being told that night.
