Dancers in illuminated, phosphorescent costumes bring the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale to life through light and dance in a 60-minute show.
Ballet of Lights brings Sleeping Beauty in a Sparkling Show to the Kelly Strayhorn Theater on Saturday, December 5, at 4 PM. It's a reimagining of the fairy tale that puts light on the same level as the dance: the dancers wear illuminated, phosphorescent costumes that respond to every movement, so the lighting changes as they move across the stage. The score draws on classical composers, following the princess from her enchanted sleep to a magical awakening.
The show runs about 60 minutes, and it's staged at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, a restored 1914 vaudeville house in East Liberty. It's a historic spot, and the room is intimate enough that you're close to the performers. The age limit is 5 and up, and children under 16 have to be accompanied by an adult.
