Tucson rock band XIXA plays Valley Bar for their tenth-anniversary show, '10 Years of Bloodline', with support from Amor Y Powers.
Xixa play Valley Bar on Saturday, October 24, with Amor Y Powers opening. The show is part of 10 Years of Bloodline, a tour marking the band's tenth anniversary.
Xixa formed in the American Southwest, out of Tucson, and they've spent a decade building a sound they call "The New Southwest." It's a guitar-heavy rock band that pulls from the desert and their Latin roots, blending gritty guitars with the bumping grind of chicha and desert blues. They describe the result as intense, sun-bleached music shot through with an inky gothic horror.
If you're not familiar with the terms they're mixing, chicha is a Peruvian dance style that blends cumbia with psychedelic rock, and desert blues is the hypnotic, guitar-driven sound that's come out of the Sahara. Xixa brings those together with a rock edge, and this show is a celebration of ten years of doing exactly that. Amor Y Powers will open the night.
