We3, a jazz trio of piano, violin and vocals, celebrates its 10th anniversary with special guest drummer Janet Daniel.
We3 are playing the Musical Instrument Museum on Friday, October 23, and they're bringing a guest along for the night. The trio—piano, violin, and vocals—is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and for this show, drummer Janet Daniel joins them on stage. It's a full band sound for a group that usually keeps things to three.
If you haven't run into them before, We3 is a jazz trio led by pianist Nicole Pesce, with violinist Suzanne Lansford and vocalist Renee Grant Patrick. Grant Patrick is the daughter of the late George Grant of the world-famous Ink Spots, and that lineage sits right in the middle of what they do. Since their official debut in 2016, they've built their following by paying tribute to timeless tunes, offering new and familiar interpretations of popular jazz, swing, and blues standards. It's the kind of set that works whether you know the songs by heart or you're just hearing them for the first time.
Adding a drummer to the mix changes the dynamic. The piano, violin, and voice are the core, and Daniel's percussion fills in the gaps, giving the standards a bit more drive than the trio does on its own. It's a good way to mark ten years—bringing in a guest to expand the sound for a single night.
