A blues concert featuring the award-winning guitarist and vocalist Tommy Castro and his band the Painkillers at the Musical Instrument Museum.
Tommy Castro and the Painkillers play the Musical Instrument Museum on Tuesday, January 19, 2027, at 7 PM. Castro is an award-winning guitarist, vocalist, and bandleader who has spent more than four decades leading his band, the Painkillers, through high-energy live shows. He's one of the most decorated artists in contemporary blues, with 10 Blues Music Awards, including multiple B.B. King Entertainer of the Year honors.
His catalog covers a lot of ground. Over 17 albums, he's moved through horn-driven R&B, hot-blooded soul, and gritty electric blues. His latest release, Closer to the Bone, is described as the most unvarnished, straight-ahead blues of his career. Critics have called him "one of the foremost practitioners of electric blues" (Living Blues) and said he "plays gritty, string-bending blues like a runaway train" (No Depression). That's the sound he's known for: soul-drenched vocals and searing guitar work.
