Over-21s night of live analog house music from Phoenix duo CHKLZ and Las Vegas trio MEGA-SCOPES at Thunderbird Lounge.
CHKLZ and MEGA-SCOPES are playing Thunderbird Lounge on Friday, November 27, starting at 9 PM. It's a double bill of live electronic music, with the Phoenix-based duo CHKLZ bringing their analog house sound to the main feature spot. They'll be joined by MEGA-SCOPES, an electronic dance music trio from Las Vegas who also play live. Filling out the night are DJs Feral, Knuuklz, Bicycle Jesus, and Trent, so there's a full run of sets to work through.
If you haven't come across MEGA-SCOPES yet, they're a bit of a trip. They describe themselves as three extraterrestrial owl hybrids, and their sound blends dance music, hip hop, and trance with the warmth of acoustic instruments. In terms of where they fit, they place themselves in the orbit of acts like The Floozies, Glitch Mob, Beats Antique, and Big Gigantic. The whole thing is wrapped in a backstory that goes back to 1977, when SETI reportedly received an encoded radio message from a distant galaxy that took a decade to decipher. According to the lore, after failed experiments with lions, bears, and great white sharks, the humble owl was chosen for its stealth, night vision, and hearing—though the trio insists they refused to be weaponized.
