The Tony Award-winning musical Suffs tells the true story of the women who fought for the right to vote, performed live at The Phoenix Theatre Company.
Suffs opens at The Phoenix Theatre Company on Friday, October 16, at 7:30 PM, and runs through Sunday, November 29, with 37 additional performances. It's the Tony Award-winning musical that tells the true story of the women who fought for the right to vote, and it's coming to the Hormel Theatre at 1825 N Central Ave.
The show centers on the suffragist icons who led the movement—Alice Paul, Carrie Chapman Catt, Inez Milholland, Ida B. Wells, Susan B. Anthony, and Sojourner Truth—alongside the younger activists who carried the work forward. The music and book are both by Shaina Taub, who wrote it with a bold, contemporary sound. The tagline the production runs with sums it up: "The vote was not given, it was won. These are the women who made it happen."
It's a long run, so you've got plenty of dates to choose from over the next six weeks. The show runs 2 hours and 20 minutes, which includes one 15-minute intermission. A few things to know before you go: the production uses fog and haze, and contains depictions of tobacco and alcohol, crude language, racism, descriptions of torture, and theatrical fire. If you're bringing a group of ten or more, there are group rates available.
