Free outdoor reading adventure for families where the book 'Paletero Man' is displayed on signs around a walk at Aguila Park.
Prickly Pear Library is hosting a StoryWalk® at the Park on Wednesday, October 21, and the featured book is Paletero Man by Lucky Diaz. If you haven't come across a StoryWalk before, the format is pretty simple: the pages of the book are printed on a series of signs and posted along a walking path, so you read the story one page at a time as you stroll from one sign to the next. It takes a book out of the library and puts it in the open air, and you discover the tale as you go.
This one is run by the Phoenix Public Library and is aimed at all ages, from birth to five and up, so it's a good fit for families with little ones. The book itself, Paletero Man, is by Lucky Diaz, and the whole thing is set up as a reading adventure at Aguila Park. Instead of sitting down with a book in your lap, you're moving through the park, reading and walking at the same time.
It's a low-pressure way to get kids reading, and since it's outdoors, it works as a walk and a story in one. You can take it at your own pace, stop to talk about the pages, and finish the book by the time you've made your way through the path.
