Grammy-winning bluegrass band Steep Canyon Rangers perform at the MIM Music Theater, showcasing their bluegrass foundations with their album 'Next Act'.
Steep Canyon Rangers play the Musical Instrument Museum on Monday, November 23, as part of the MIM Music Theater's fall concert series. They're a Grammy-winning bluegrass band from Asheville, North Carolina, and this is their fifteenth studio album, Next Act, which they describe as a return to their bluegrass foundations. If you've followed them for a while, that's a specific thing to hear them talk about—they've put out a lot of records, and this one is them leaning back into the roots of the genre.
The venue is the MIM Music Theater, tucked inside the museum in Phoenix. It's a 300-seat room, and Grammy winner Shawn Colvin once called it the best 300-seat venue in the country. The museum's artistic director, Andrew Walesch, describes each performance as an extension of the exhibits, meant to showcase the instruments on display, the people who play them, and the musical language they share. He says the season brings back returning favorites and introduces emerging talents, with artists sounding different here than anywhere else. The Rangers fit right into that—they're a band built around the instruments they play, and their albums have topped the Billboard charts.
