Member-only docent-led presentation of Liu Bolin's 'Hiding in the City #69' at the Phoenix Art Museum, held on the second Thursday of each month.
The Phoenix Art Museum is hosting another Senior Coffee Social on Thursday, November 12, with a focus on Liu Bolin's Hiding in the City #69. It's part of a monthly series the museum puts on for members, and this one takes place in Singer Hall, located in the Administration Building.
The format is the same as always: they pair a single piece from the museum's collection with a docent-led discussion. The conversation isn't just about the art itself, but about how the work can mirror, critique, and challenge social norms. Bolin's Hiding in the City #69 fits that wellβhis whole thing is blending into the background, painting himself to match his surroundings until he almost disappears into the scene. It's the kind of piece that gives you a lot to chew on when you start talking about visibility, presence, and where we fit into the world around us.
Since it's a member-only event, you'll need to be a museum member to join in. Registration opens on November 2, and spots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so it's worth getting your name in early. You can register by phone or by joining the museum if you haven't already.

Doors open at 10:00 AM, and the presentation runs from 10:30 to 11:00 AM. It's a short window, so if you're planning to hang around the museum afterward, you'll have the rest of the morning ahead of you. The Senior Coffee Social happens on the second Thursday of every month in Singer Hall, in the Administration Building at the Phoenix Art Museum.
