Three works by Balanchine, Wheeldon and ArquĂ©sâDivertimento No. 15, Ghosts and Fingers in the Airâbrought to the Orpheum Theatre by Ballet Arizona.
Ballet Arizona brings Pulse to the Orpheum Theatre from April 1 to 4, 2027, with five performances over four days. It's a triple bill that puts three very different pieces on one stage, each with its own mood and its own choreographer.
The program opens with Divertimento No. 15, George Balanchine's take on Mozart's Divertimento No. 15. It's one of his most radiant classical works, built around a regal ensemble in full tutus. After that comes Ghosts by Christopher Wheeldon, set to music by C.F. Kip Winger. It's an ethereal, emotional piece that weaves intricate partnering and flowing movement into something haunting and hypnotic. The third is Fingers in the Air by Juanjo Arqués, set to Robin Rimbaud's Scanner. It's a dynamic contemporary ballet that changes with every performance, driven by choice and chance.
Between the three, you get a good range: the celebratory classical of Balanchine, the atmospheric partnering of Wheeldon, and the unpredictable contemporary style of Arqués. If you're not sure where you stand on ballet, having three distinct voices in one night makes it easier to find something that clicks.

There are five showtimes to choose from: Thursday, April 1, at 7 PM; Friday, April 2, at 7:30 PM; Saturday, April 3, at 2 PM and 7:30 PM; and Sunday, April 4, at 1 PM. The Orpheum seats 1,364, and there's bag screening at the door, so keep that in mind if you're planning your arrival. Before or after the show, the company holds free performance chats with the dancers, which is a nice way to hear about the work from the people actually on stage.
