The Phoenix Symphony, conducted by Conner Gray Convington, performs the score by Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer from 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl'.
The Phoenix Symphony is bringing Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl to Symphony Hall for three performances over a single weekend: Friday, October 30, at 7:30 PM; Saturday, October 31, at 7:30 PM; and Sunday, November 1, at 2:00 PM.
It's a live-to-film concert, which means the movie plays on the big screen while the symphony performs the score in the room. The music was written by Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer, and the whole thing is conducted by Conner Gray Convington. If you've seen the movie, you know the sound—the sweeping themes and the driving rhythms that carry the action. Hearing it live, with the full orchestra right there, is a different experience than listening to a recording.
The film itself is the first in the series, starring Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, alongside Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. It's the one that set up the whole world: the cursed Aztec gold, the ghost crew of the Black Pearl, and the mix of high-seas adventure and supernatural mystery. The symphony follows the action on screen, so the music hits exactly when the swords clash or the ship sets sail. The performance runs 2 hours and 15 minutes.
