Peter Bjorn and John perform their Writer's Block 20th Anniversary Tour with special guest Josh Rouse.
Peter Bjorn and John play Walter Studios on Saturday, October 17, with Josh Rouse opening. It's a Phoenix stop on their Writer's Block 20th Anniversary Tour, and the set is built around that record.
If that album sounds familiar, it's because it's the one that put them on the map. The Swedish indie-pop trio — Peter Morén, Björn Yttling and John Eriksson — have been at this for more than two decades, and Writer's Block is the record that defined their sound. It's the one that gave them the global hit "Young Folks," and since this tour is celebrating its 20th anniversary, that's where the night centers.
They've put out a fair amount of music since then. Writer's Block was followed by Seaside Rock, an instrumental tribute, and the pop-leaning Living Thing, which earned them an opening slot for Depeche Mode. Then came Gimme Some, a power-trio record, and Breakin' Point, which brought in songwriters like Patrik Berger and Greg Kurstin. Their 2015 album Darker Days took a grim turn, and Endless Dream, their ninth, is framed by the band as its bright, airy successor. This show, though, is about the record that started the run.
