Concert by the indie rock band Modest Mouse with special guest Carolina Rose at the Arizona Financial Theatre.
Modest Mouse play the Arizona Financial Theatre on Monday, October 19, with Carolina Rose opening. It's a Monday night show, which puts it a bit outside the usual weekend run, so you'll want to keep that in mind if you're planning your week around it.
Modest Mouse has been around since the mid-90s, starting out in Issaquah, Washington, and building a reputation for a jagged, nervous kind of indie rock. Their sound is built on Isaac Brock's distinct voice and guitar work, and over the years they've moved from the loose, sprawling arrangements of their early records toward the more polished, melodic songs that brought them a wider audience. A set usually pulls from across that timeline, mixing the older, more eccentric material with the songs that became their best-known work.
Carolina Rose opens the bill. She's a singer-songwriter known for a voice that can stretch from a low, conversational tone up into a bright, clear head voice, and her songs tend to lean into a melodic, folk-inflected sound. Having her on the bill gives the night two different energies before the main set takes over.
