The musical Les Misérables returns to the stage, telling a timeless story of courage, love, and sacrifice in 19th-century France.
Les Misérables is running at The Phoenix Theatre Company through October 18, 2026, having opened on July 15. It's playing at the Dr. Stacie J. and Richard J. Stephenson Theatre at 1825 N Central Ave in Phoenix.
If you're not familiar with the story, it's based on Victor Hugo's 1862 novel and set in 19th-century France. It follows Jean Valjean, a paroled convict who spends years on the run from Inspector Javert, while revolution stirs in Paris. The music is by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, and it's one of the most enduring works in musical theatre: the original Broadway production won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and by October 2025 the show had been seen by more than 130 million people worldwide. The 2012 film adaptation won three Academy Awards. You'll recognize the score from songs like "I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Bring Him Home," and "Do You Hear the People Sing?"
This production has a history with the company. In 2009 it became Phoenix Theatre's highest-grossing production, selling out its five-week run by opening night, and it was remounted to sold-out crowds in 2014. This time around, Ethan Rogers plays Jean Valjean, with Geoffrey F. Belliston as Javert, Carmiña Monserrat as Cosette, Tre Moore as Marius, Monet Sabel as Fantine, Hahnna Christianson as Éponine, and Josh Pike as Enjolras. Toby Yatso and Terey Summers play the Thénardiers. Brendan Stackhouse directs and choreographs, and Kevin Robert White handles music direction with a 15-piece orchestra.

Before you go, there are a few things to keep in mind: the production uses theatrical smoke and haze, simulated gunfire, and adult language, and it deals with themes of violence, prostitution, and suicide. Tickets start at $59, and the run goes through October 18.
