A renowned bluegrass musician and founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band performs with his band at the Musical Instrument Museum.
John McEuen and The Circle Band play the Musical Instrument Museum on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 7 PM. McEuen is a multi-instrumentalist who plays banjo, guitar, and mandolin, and he's a founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, the group that helped popularize classics like "Mr. Bojangles" and the groundbreaking album Will the Circle Be Unbroken. His live shows blend storytelling, instrumentals, and songs across bluegrass, folk, and country.
He'll be performing with The Circle Band, and the set draws from those same bluegrass and folk roots. The night is billed as a bluegrass concert, so expect the banjo and mandolin to take center stage, with the storytelling woven in between the songs. It's the kind of show that works as well if you've followed his career from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band days as it does if you're just coming for a night of bluegrass.
The venue is the Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix, which is billed as the world's largest music museum. It's a contemporary 200,000-square-foot facility that opened in April 2010 and houses more than 15,000 instruments from nearly 200 countries. The concert takes place in the museum's Music Theater, a 299-seat room noted for its acoustics and intimate atmosphere. If you're arriving early, you can walk through the galleries and see instruments from around the world before the show starts.
