Concert by the Queen of Landó, Eva Ayllón, performing Afro-Peruvian music with special guest Daniela Darcourt.
Eva Ayllón plays the Herberger Theater Center on Saturday, October 17, at 8 PM. She's joined by guest Daniela Darcourt, and the show is presented by Center Stage.
If you're not familiar with her, Ayllón is one of Peru's most enduring stars. Born María Angélica Ayllón Urbina in Lima on February 6, 1956, she's spent more than 50 years as a leading figure in Afro-Peruvian music, a tradition that blends African rhythms with Spanish and indigenous influences. She's widely known as the 'Queen of Landó,' the slow, syncopated dance style that's one of the most recognizable sounds of the Afro-Peruvian tradition. In 2019, she received a Latin GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, which followed ten nominations for Best Folk Album.
Daniela Darcourt joins her as a guest, and she brings a different side of the Peruvian scene to the night: Peruvian salsa. Darcourt is a rising star and a Latin GRAMMY nominee in her own right, so the evening will move between Ayllón's Afro-Peruvian roots and Darcourt's salsa, two distinct threads of the country's musical heritage sharing one stage.
