Live show by Elvis Before Noon, a four-piece Phoenix power-pop band with a desert rock sound, at Chopper John's.
Elvis Before Noon play Chopper John's on Sunday, October 18, starting at 5 PM. If the name throws you, here's the first thing to know: they aren't an Elvis Presley tribute band. They're a four-piece Phoenix rock band fronted by primary vocalist and songwriter Daylon Greer, and they write and record their own original power-pop songs.
They describe their sound as built around an early-90s 'desert sound' vibe reminiscent of Tempe, and that's a good place to start. It's a local sound that's hard to pin down but easy to recognize once you've heard it. They've shared stages with the Gin Blossoms and Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers, and they play regularly around the Valley, with Sunday nights at The Vig Arcadia and shows at East Valley venues and festivals. They also play down in Puerto Peñasco, especially in June during Roger Clyne's 'Circus Mexicus' festival.
Their set lists pull from a wide range, and that's part of the draw. You'll hear Johnny Cash, Weezer, and Motown alongside rockabilly, The Beatles, and the occasional Elvis song. It's a mix of their own originals and covers that span a few decades of rock and pop, so you're likely to hear something you know regardless of where your tastes lean. Their original songs are available on iTunes, and they have a forthcoming album titled Original on the way.
