A 30-minute talk by Ann Marshall, PhD, Director of Research at the Heard Museum, on the new Grand Gallery exhibition Twilight.
Ann Marshall, the Heard Museum's Director of Research, is giving a curator talk on Thursday, November 12, at the Heard Museum. It's a half-hour session that runs from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and it's built around the museum's new Grand Gallery exhibition, Twilight: Trading Posts & Creative Legacies.
If you've seen the show, the talk is a good way to get a bit more context on what's on the walls. The exhibition centers on Navajo textiles, and Marshall will be talking through the collection. Among the highlights is a textile by Calvin Toney (Diné), a recent acquisition for the museum, and a pictorial textile by Florence Riggs (Diné) that shows the exterior of a trading post. Those two sit alongside pottery, jewelry, and photography from the world of trading posts, so the textiles aren't the only thing on view.
There's also a piece by DY Begay (Diné, b. 1953) called Blue Valley (2006), worked in handspun wool with hand-dyed indigo yarns, which came to the museum as a gift from Frank and Betsy Goodyear. Between the newer acquisitions and the older pieces, the show pulls together a fair amount of material from different eras.
