Drop-in, hands-on art-making program for young artists at the Phoenix Art Museum, with a new theme each week around an on-view artwork.
Create Playdate is back at the Phoenix Art Museum this Saturday, November 7, from 11 AM to 3 PM. It's the museum's program for young artists, and it's a drop-in session, so you don't need to commit to the whole four hours—you can just swing by whenever it fits your morning or afternoon.
The whole thing runs out of a mobile art cart that moves through the galleries, which is a nice way to do it. Instead of sitting in a separate classroom, the kids make their art right there among the collections, turning a museum visit into a hands-on maker experience. Each week has its own theme built around a specific artwork on view, so the activity is tied directly to what's on the walls. There's a project to work on while you're at the museum, and they also give you ideas for projects to take home and keep going with later.
It's a great way to get kids interacting with the art rather than just walking past it. Since it's a drop-in, there's no registration required—you just show up. The program is made possible by The Discount Tire Endowment for Children's Art Programs and the William Randolph Hearst Endowed Fund for Education Programs.

It's included in general admission, so if you're already planning a day at the museum, this is just one more thing to add to the trip. You'll find it at the Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004, on Saturday, November 7, from 11 AM to 3 PM.
