Free outdoor performance by the New Orleans brass band Bad Cactus, part of the 'No Kings: Phoenix! March to the Polls - Vote Early!' day of action.
Bad Cactus Brass Band is playing Grant Park on Saturday, October 17, as part of a Day of Action. The performance is part of 'No Kings: Phoenix! March to the Polls - Vote Early!', and attendees are asked to bring their completed ballots with them.
If you've never caught them live, the band has been bringing New Orleans second line beats, funk grooves, and street jazz to the Phoenix metro since 2009. Their stage show is built around trumpets, saxophone, trombones, sousaphone, and marching drums, all rounded out with plenty of singing and shouting. They describe their sound as sitting at the crossroads of neo-soul, New Orleans second line, funk, and jazz.
They've played a wide range of gigs over the years—nightclubs, festivals, weddings, and funerals—and have toured the Southwest. Along the way, they've released four albums, opened for major New Orleans acts, and created festivals of their own. This particular show is a bit different from their usual club or wedding set, as it's tied to the 'March to the Polls' event and the Day of Action, with the request to bring your completed ballot.
