Arizona club debut of Aluna, the singer behind AlunaGeorge, with a house set inspired by UK dance culture, plus Willo and support from Jocelyn Pliego.
Aluna is making her Arizona debut at Walter Where?House on Saturday, October 17, and it's a DJ set, not a live band. She's the singer, songwriter, and producer most of us know as the voice of AlunaGeorge, but these days she's operating as a solo artist. The set is a club-focused take on house, with a sound that pulls from UK dance culture.
She's been leaning hard into club culture for a while now, blending electronic pop, UK garage, and R&B. There's a lot behind the name: more than a billion streams, sold-out shows around the world, and award nominations. She released her solo debut in 2020, and she describes that record as her journey from "a black girl in an all-white British suburb" to a sound that dissolves boundaries between culture, race, gender, and genre. She cites the "Black Renaissance" as an inspiration for it.
She won't be the only one on the bill. Australian producer Willo is on the lineup, with support from Phoenix selector Jocelyn Pliego. Between the three of them, the night should cover a good stretch of the dance floor.
