Free weekly yoga class for all levels taught by instructors Janet Faulls and Anne-Marie Mulgrew at the Whitman Library.
Yoga for Adults is back at Whitman Library on Thursday, October 22, at 3:30 PM. It's a free class open to all levels, so you can roll out your mat whether you've never done yoga before or you've been practicing for years. Instructors Janet Faulls and Anne-Marie Mulgrew lead the session.
This is one of the weekly Thursday classes the library hosts, and it sits within the Free Library of Philadelphia's health and wellness offerings. Those programs are run by local practitioners and sponsored by The Friends of the Free Library of Philadelphia. Across the city, the Free Library puts on more than 28,000 programs for all ages every year, so this is one of many free things you can find at the branches.
Whitman Library is at 200 Snyder Avenue, at the corner of 2nd Street and Snyder Avenue in South Philadelphia. The branch opened on January 24, 1977, and was renovated in 2000 as part of the 'Changing Lives' campaign, which refurbished branches and brought in Internet service. The meeting room where the class takes place hangs scenes of South Philadelphia painted by the watercolorist Howard N. Watson. The library takes its name from the nearby Walt Whitman Bridge, and the neighborhood—once marshland—is the birthplace of the Philadelphia Mummers, whose traditions date back to the 19th century.
